Château d’Oex is in many ways the quintessential Swiss alpine resort. Nestled on the south side of a valley amongst the French-speaking Alps, the town is the picture of a traditional ski village. To the west is the medieval village of Gruyères, world famous for its cheese; to the east, the international glamour resort Gstaad.
Château d’Oex has a vast array of activities year round. Skiing and snowboarding are the most popular activities here, with plenty of trails for both the novice and the advanced skier. Two main resort systems in town are especially favorable for family skiing, so bring the entire family for a European vacation. Advanced skiers will have plenty to keep them busy. In fact, a Château d’Oex ticket enables you to ski the entire Gstaad "Super Ski Region." Visiting during the summer? No problem, the same ticket enables visitors to experience summer skiing/tobaganning on the Diablerets glacier.
Perhaps the most exciting time to visit this resort is towards the end of January when the international hot air balloon festival is held. This is truly a breath-taking site from the top of the slopes across the valley, as hundreds of balloons decorate the sky. With options year round and plenty of them at that Château d’Oex makes an ideal vacation anytime of year.

There is so much to do from caving, waterfall chasing to visiting the village churches dating from the 15th Century. There are tennis courts, mini golf and cheese making demonstrations a few minutes walk from the appartment.
